After last year’s devastating wild fire season, Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR) says that they will now be using the new disc scarification technique to better help forest rehabilitation.
Daniel Pearson, forester for CCR located in Williams Lake, spoke with CFNR the disc scarification method for getting sites ready for trees. Pearson says it is like getting a garden ready for plants and, essentially, using a rototiller on the ground before planing the trees. The technique aims to increase the survival rate of trees, promote growth, and reforest areas affected by wildfires.
CCR has found that this way works better and is faster than the usual methods like CAT ripping – challenges include the added cost of the technique and the machinery and the need to ensure a good return on investment.
CFNR has more on the story.
