Wildfire crews are making progress on the John Brown Creek blaze which is prompting an evacuation alert for Witset.
Originally discovered in July, it wasn’t until this Sunday that the flames grew rapidly, prompting the alert at over 350 hectares.
While crews managed to get the flames down to 260 hectares over the past two days, last night saw some slight growth, with the fire now covering 315 hectares.
The alert remains in place for the village and some of the surrounding area, which is not a call to evacuate, but instead to be prepared.
Those in need of transportation assistance in the event of evacuation can contact Priscilla Naziel at 250 877 9060.
Those who have pets or livestock to be inventoried can call 778 210 0136.
Points in the village that access the John Brown Creek are now closed and residents are asked to obey all signage and avoid all closed roads.
