Junior All Native Basketball Tournament
2022
Hosted by Siylx
March 20 – 25, 2022
To Jr All Native Coaches and Manager, We are excited to host the 2022 Jr All Native Basketball Tournament March 20-25, 2022 in Kelowna, BC. It has been a long road since 2020 to return to the gym and to be able to host this tournament. We have had numerous enquiries about the health and safety of hosting the tournament at this time and we want to reassure everyone that we are taking every precaution.
Therefore, everyone participating in the 2022 Jr All Native in March will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Our committee has announced the proof of vaccination requirement to help maximize the safety of athletes, coaches, officials, staff, volunteers, and spectators. As this event has participants from every region of the province, we must take appropriate actions and precautions to help minimize the health risks for all participants.
We look forward to providing a safe environment as we come back together to play basketball. As Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccines are available for everyone age 12 and older, this proof of full vaccination requirement applies to all JANT participants, coaches, volunteers, and guests. There are no exceptions. Full vaccination means 14 days after receiving a second dose. A negative COVID-19 test is not a substitute for proof of full vaccination. The JANT Host Committee is optimistic that youth under the age of 12 will be able to receive a Health Canada-approved vaccine in the near future, which will allow athletes in the 13U division to be fully vaccinated and eligible to participate in JANT. We continue to work with First Nations Health Authority, as well as local public health officials to make sure COVID-19 safety protocols are in place for the tournament.
We understand this is a new measure for all participants but as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we need to adjust our policies to make sure JANT is safe for everyone. This is the first JANT since the pandemic, so there will need to be adjustments. In addition to the proof of full vaccination requirement, safety measures will be in place in terms of operational modifications, mask wearing, sanitizing, and physical distancing for all participants. Policies for spectators are being developed in terms of venue capacity, however the proof of full vaccination requirements will follow Provincial requirements for these individuals as well. The JANT Host Committee will continue to monitor all provincial and local Public Health Orders in the coming months and adjust the requirements as needed. We are excited to finally be able to welcome you to our territory for what we know will be a great reunion of Nations. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you in March.
