A string of fraudulent online transactions in the community has Kitimat RCMP warning residents to properly verify sellers before making a purchase.
In the past week, police have fielded multiple similar complaints of residents sending money to sellers via e-transfers, but not receiving a product.
While most online marketplace transactions are safe, purchasers should always be wary and make sure to vet sellers before sending money.
This can include: confirming their identity, examining past sales history, reaching out to other customers, or a number of other methods.
If you believe you have been scammed by a seller, most online marketplaces offer a dispute option which may refund your purchase.
