An investigation into a fatal helicopter crash near Kitsault earlier this month has been launched by the Transportation Safety Board.
On November 9th, a Geotech Aviations helicopter collided with the ground while conducting surveys between Prince Rupert and Stewart.
Prince Rupert RCMP were the first to receive word of the crash, and put together a rescue effort alongside Terrace Search and Rescue, and Emergency Management BC.
Unfortunately, the pilot and lone occupant of the helicopter had already passed away by the time crews could arrive and extract the body.
Now, the TSB is looking to gather information on what might have led to the tragic accident, which also resulted in the complete write-off of the helicopter.
TSB investigations are undertaken in an effort to improve safety, and not to assign fault or determine liability.
