First Nations members can sign up for a training program that will provide them with the skills and resources they need to start a running and walking program in their communities.
SportMedBC is offering the course to train community members to become active living leaders.
Lynn Kanuka is one of the trainers with SportMedBC, she’s also a former Olympian, winning the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Games.
She says the program started a decade ago with an Aboriginal Sun Run training leader.
Participants will also be able to apply for grants to offset the cost of implementing a 10km event in their community.
The training sessions are being held throughout the province, with northern sessions in Terrace at the end of September, and in Prince George at the beginning of October.
