Pollution levels have sparked two air quality advisories for the Bulkley Valley.
The environment ministry says high concentrations of fine particulate matter have accumulated around Houston and Smithers.
It’s advising people with chronic underlying health conditions to postpone any strenuous exercise until air quality improves. Exposure to fine particulates is a particular concern for infants, the elderly, and those with diabetes, heart, or lung disease.
Woodstove use is banned in the Town of Smithers and the District of Houston during the air quality advisories unless it is the sole source of heat.
Officials expect the air quality to remain poor for the next couple of days.
