Representatives from Aurora LNG gave an update to Terrace City Council on the state of the project.
The group says they’re on no particular schedule for the project that will see liquefied natural gas from plants in the Fort Nelson area to Digby Island just west of Prince Rupert to be shipped to Asian markets.
They’re waiting to see LNG rise to a higher price with Aurora officials hoping it will happen in the mid 2020s.
Mayor Carol Leclerc says they really appreciate the update on the project and are optimistic to hear that there will be a focus on hiring local workers.
She adds that they’re going to push to ensure Terrace gets their fair share of revenue generated from the project.
The Aurora LNG project is currently in its public consultation feedback stage. Residents have until March 9th to provide input.
