A report on electoral reform released yesterday made 18 recommendations, but BC Attorney General David Eby says the final say will be in the hands of the residents.
In the report, Eby suggested that voters be asked whether they would prefer to keep the current first-past-the-post system or adopt a new proportional representation system.
The Liberal government maintains that the new system would over complicate voting, and ensure the extinction of one-party majorities.
The Green and NDP parties, however, say the current system doesn’t reflect voters’ desires and fails to engage young voters.
