The BC Federation of Labour are calling for the provincial government to “level the playing field” for workers in 2019.
Today the BCFED, which represents over 500 thousand workers in the province, filed a submission asking the government to invest in workers to create a stronger economy.
In the submission, the Federation calls for the government to perform an extensive review of the Employment Standards Act, asking for an increase in legal working age to 16, extensions to wage recovery periods, increasing penalties for workers who break the law, and reviewing sick leave, among other concerns.
The submission also suggests labour code changes, and areas where funding can be cut to afford reviews in to both documents.
