A series of interface fires burning since early July have flared up, forcing the CRD to evacuate a small number of properties in the Grain Creek area located on the north side of Quesnel Lake.
Officials noticed increased fire behaviour earlier this week and the Office of the Fire Commissioner worked with the BC Wildfire Service to set up structure protection units to areas under immediate threat in the Grain Creek area.
The Wildfire Service says full fire suppression in the area is not possible due to the large number of interface fires burning across the Cariboo Fire Centre.
Officials have also engaged with industry to conduct heavy equipment work on the fire in the Abbot Creek area on the north side of Quesnel Lake.
While smoke from the Quesnel Lake area is visible from other regions, the BC Wildfire Service says public safety and property in nearby areas, including Likely, is not threatened at this time.
Further evacuation orders or alerts could be issued depending on fire behaviour.
