The Central Interior Hockey Leauge is taking a tough hit with a possible league reduction by the start of next season.
It’s likely the CIHL will start next season without the Smithers Steelheads.
The Steelheads management spoke earlier and discussed they’ve been playing with a shortage of players for a few years now.
Tom DeVries is the head coach of the Steelheads and he’s been with the team for 5 years.
When asked if he was shocked he responded with “not really it’s been a struggle for a while”.
DeVries says it’s upsetting for the fans because the CIHL produced some good hockey games.
Fortunately, hockey fans in Terrace will still be able to watch the Riverkings in action, head coach of the kings Kevin Legros says they’ve still got lots of bodies.
With the reduction, there will be 5 teams and likely 16 games next season.
