What do the Canada Revenue Agency and iTunes have in common?
Nothing. That’s the message Williams Lake RCMP is trying to get across about a scam that has re-surfaced in the community.
Mounties say the fraudsters have bilked over a dozen Williams Lake area residents out of thousands of dollars.
The scam artist calls the victim posing as an officer with the CRA or police and tells them they owe back taxes.
The caller tells people the easiest way to avoid jail is to buy iTunes or Visa gift cards.
RCMP say it’s best to simply hang up.
Police say the Canada Revenue Agency will not call, but will only send correspondence by mail. The CRA will never ask for personal information through an email, text, or by clicking a link.
