Fire crews are gearing up for another long, hot day battling several out of control wildfires raging across BC’s Cariboo-Chilcotin and Central Interior.
As of 11 p.m. Saturday night, 70 news fire starts had been reported on top of the 142 fires sparked Friday and those already burning.
According to forests minister John Rustad, approximately 7000 people have been forced to flee their homes.
Evacuation orders and alerts are in place in over a dozen communities, including Williams Lake, Alexis Creek, Hanceville, 100 Mile House, and the Williams Lake Indian Band.
Extra help from other jurisdictions is expected to begin arriving Monday and Tuesday.
Another update on the fire situation is expected from the forests ministry Sunday afternoon.
