The MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley says the proponents of an LNG project near Prince Rupert may have to retool the project or the offer if they want to move forward.
Nathan Cullen of the NDP is reacting to early vote results by the Lax Kw’alaams Band on a billion-dollar natural gas benefits deal related to the Pacific NorthWest LNG project.
A band member says all of the more than 180 eligible voters at a meeting in Port Simpson stood up to oppose the plans.
The remaining members of the 3700-strong band will have an opportunity to vote following two information sessions in Prince Rupert and Vancouver over the coming week.
Cullen says he doesn’t view the offer as a buy-off, adding that businesses make offers to communities all the time.
