Williams Lake Mounties say a local man sobered up in city cells after a celebrating his return home with fireworks.
RCMP were called out to the Carson Drive and Central Court area early Saturday morning after complaints about fireworks being set off.
Police found a number of used fireworks canisters at a local property and took a man into custody.
The 34-year-old Williams Lake man later told police that he set the fireworks off in celebration of returning home after his evacuation, says Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey, Communications Officer for the BC RCMP in Williams Lake.
It is careless acts such as this that have the real potential to trigger even more interface wildfires in the area.
Police say the man is facing over a thousand dollars in fines for allegedly dropping, releasing or mishandling a burning substance, as well as for failing to comply with high risk activity restrictions under both the provincial BC Wildfire Act and its Regulations.
Williams Lake RCMP are thanking members of the public that called in the complaint.
