The owners of a copper-molybdenum mine near Williams Lake will pay $70,000 dollars in fines.
Gibraltar Mines Ltd. pleaded guilty to five offences under the Fisheries Act related to the Metal Mining Effluent Regulations.
A news release from the federal environment ministry says the company failed to complete environmental monitoring, failed to submit reports, and failed to notify and report on a limit exceedance in effluent discharge.
The government says $65,000 will be paid to the Environmental Damages Fund while the remaining $5,000 of the penalty will be paid as a fine.
Gibraltar Mines will also be added to the Environmental Offenders Registry which contains the names of corporations convicted of offences under certain federal environmental laws.
