The provincial government has reached the first of what it hopes to be many new agreements with public sector employees.
26,500 employees will benefit from the tentative agreement, which will effect members of the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union, the Liquor Distribution Branch, and the BC Pension Corporation.
With most public sector unions up for contract renewals in 2019, the province is looking to get a head start after years of stagnant wages have unions requesting wage increases.
The agreement is the first of 183 the province plans to make with the over 326 thousand unionized employees in the public service sector.
