Former Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond has been chosen as the Liberal candidate for the North Coast riding in the upcoming provincial election.
Pond was also a former administrator for the Lax Kw’alaams band.
Pond says he’s excited to run in the election and feels employment is an area that needs to be addressed.
He says LNG is something he is for but only if it’s done responsibility and respectfully.
Pond notes that conversations between all sides will be a major part of getting the job done right.
Pond beat out Rodney Proskiw for the spot and feels Proskiw made him stronger as he prepares to run for office.
Pond will be running against incumbent NDP MLA Jennifer Rice in the election, slated for May 9th.
The North Coast riding includes Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii, and the Central Coast.
