Prince George RCMP received a report that a man was “casing” vehicles.
On July 18th at 10:30 a man was casing vehicles in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Central Street West.
A Police officer responded to the complaint and located the suspect who attempted to flee by bike.
A struggle allegedly broke out between the suspect and the police officer, several other officers attended the scene after the lone police officer requested urgent assistance by putting out a distress call.
Attending officers assisted in the apprehension of the man, pepper spray was used during the course of the altercation and the man was then placed in the police car.
Police had to call for medical assistance after the man was having trouble with his breathing, once the ambulance arrived the man was taken out of the car and collapsed, he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
As per protocols, Independent Investigation Office BC was notified and they will now investigate whether there is a connection between the man’s death and the actions of the police.
