The latest numbers have been released on illicit drug overdose deaths across the north.
Northern Health’s Doctor Raina Fumerton says as of the end of September, the number of overdose deaths have already passed last year’s total.
According the BC Coroners Service, fentanyl makes up for 23 of the 32 deaths.
Doctor Fumerton believes making more resources available like naloxone kits will bring the numbers down.
Fumerton believes using the programs will prevent the overdose deaths that shouldn’t be happening.
She notes it’s not something that will be fixed overnight.
The province declared a public health emergency earlier this year because of the alarming numbers.
