Kitimat RCMP say impaired driving is no longer accepted as “normal” in the community.
Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant James McLaren says a recent holiday road check in the region bears that out.
McLaren says officers stopped 250 vehicles and found very few infractions. He says that’s a big change from 2o years ago when a similar-sized effort by RCMP could have caught a dozen drunk drivers.
Kitimat Mounties says an encouraging number of people are finding a safe ride home, including designated drivers, taxis, or shuttles supplied at large holiday gatherings.
