Lower Kootenay Band members are taking their chief councillor to arbitration.
In 2015, the BC Court of Appeal ordered the LKB chief and council to pay back $5,000 they paid themselves from a regional district payment.
Some band members say their current chief councillor, Jason Louie, has not repaid the $5,000 and he shouldn’t be in office any longer.
Litigation leader Rob Louie says members are tired of chasing their chief down for the money.
He says this action will send a message to elected officials that taxpayers will hold them accountable.
The arbitration is currently set for February 21st with the arbitrator having 15 days to announce the ruling.
The group is also seeking to remove Sandra Luke as councillor as well.
