Temporary Foreign workers in BC will be better protected against exploitation, should legislation brought forward today be passed.
Under the proposed rules a license would be required for foreign recruiters and employers, tougher penalties, including possible jail time, would be put in place for those who violate the legislation, and two registries would be created to hold both recruiters and employers accountable for their actions.
With over 16 thousand temporary foreign worker permits in BC last year, the province is second only to Ontario in the number of permits issued.
