Parents relying on the TDCSS Childcare Centre at Northwest Community College in Terrace will have to find another facility to care for their children.
TDCSS has announced that, due to an “unexpected and significant staffing disruption”, it won’t be able to continue operations past January 26th of next year.
In a posting to the community, Executive Director Michael McFetridge acknowledges the disruption and concern the closure notice has caused, noting that his own family relies heavily on the facility and the attachment that his child has with its caregivers.
McFetridge says TDCSS and the college are working to find another operator to take over services at the campus childcare centre.
NWCC President and CEO Ken Burt says the college is committed to using the space at its Terrace campus as a daycare facility and will be undertaking a public procurement process to find a new operator.
In the short term, TDCSS says Paces has indicated that it has spaces for children aged 3-5 whose parents will be impacted by the campus childcare closure.
