Prince Rupert RCMP say a local man hit by a vehicle Friday night has died of his injuries.
Mounties say the 70-year-old had exited his vehicle on 9th Avenue West to remove some debris on the road when he was hit by a vehicle making a left hand turn on the the road from McBride Street.
The man was rushed to hospital and then airlifted to Vancouver where he later died of injuries.
RCMP say visibility was extremely poor at the time of the incident due to the darkness and a torrential downpour of rain.
Mounties continue to investigate the incident with the help of the North District Traffic Services Reconstructionist Unit.

RCMP are reminding motorists and pedestrians to use caution at night when driving or walking as visibility is reduced and can be compromised with oncoming lights from traffic.
