RCMP have made arrests in connection with counterfeit currency reports plaguing Prince George.
Mounties pulled over a vehicle last Thursday, March 22nd and arrested two of the five occupants for counterfeit related offences. Police seized seventeen counterfeit US $5o bills during the investigation.
The next day, RCMP searched a Bear Lake motel room north of the city and found more evidence, including over $8000 in counterfeit Canadian $100 bills and over $2500 worth of fake American $50 bills.
Cole Patrick McIntyre-Hartwick, a 20 year old man who recently relocated to Prince George from Alberta, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Production of Counterfeit Currency
- Distribution of Counterfeit Currency
- Offer to Sell Counterfeit Money
- Use Counterfeit Money as if it were Genuine (3 counts)
McIntyre-Hartwick appeared in Provincial Court on Monday March 26th and was remanded in custody at least until his next court appearance scheduled for April 25th, 2018.
A female under the age of 18 has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Production of Counterfeit Currency
- Possession of Counterfeit Currency
The female appeared in Provincial Court on Monday March 26th and was released on documents to appear in court on a future date.
RCMP believe there is approximately $2000 in counterfeit Canadian $100 bills still in circulation in Prince George and all show obvious signs of being counterfeit with the same serial number, EKR2223601.
Police say the investigation is continuing and further arrests and charges are possible.
Mounties say this investigation is not associated to the College Heights counterfeit probe last week.
