RCMP investigating Prince Rupert fire

Prince Rupert RCMP have issued a request for assistance as they investigate what they’re calling a suspicious fire Tuesday night.

Mounties and the Prince Rupert Fire Department were called to the multi-family residence in the 800 block of Fulton Street at approximately 8:30.

Police found the building fully engulfed in flames and assisted the fire department with witness interviews and traffic control near the scene.

RCMP and members of the fire department returned to do a scene examination Wednesday and determined that the fire is suspicious.

Investigators say two unknown individuals were seen leaving the area in a dark-coloured SUV at the time of the blaze.

Sergeant Dave Uppal says police would like to speak with the two as they may be witnesses to the fire.

At least ten people are receiving emergency social assistance as a result of the incident.

Anyone with information about the blaze should contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-627-0700 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
