Rio Tinto workers could be voting to go on strike very soon.
Members of Unifor Local 2301 have voted 99.5% in favor of a strike if a deal cannot be reached at the bargaining table before July 23rd.
Over the term of the last collective agreement, Rio Tinto has pushed workers aggressively including violating the agreement with mandatory overtime, failing to provide adequate washroom facilities, and accruing over 500 outstanding counts of unfairness.
Local 2301 President Sen O’Driscoll says “we will not accept concessions and there must be a plan to improve respect for workers at the smelter.”
O’Driscoll adds there are only two possible scenarios at this time
Unifor National President Jerry Dias adds Rio Tinto created a climate of “extreme disrespect”
