This Thursday, the Salvation Army in Smithers will be launching their annual campaign aimed at children, but there’s more this time.
The Salvation Army will be providing the two Smithers public elementary schools with lunches Monday to Fridays to help children in need.
Tim Sharp is the Director of the Bulkley Valley Ministries and he says a third of the people they serve at the food bank are kids in need.
Sharp added on Fridays, they will provide schools with backpacks full of food to give to children and their families who are in need of filling the weekend hunger gap.
Sharp says the Friday backpack program will help kids focus more on school work.
The launch is slated for 10 A.M Thursday morning at the Salvation Army on Main Street.
