An extra sailing has been added between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert.
The province says a bi-weekly run between Skidegate and Prince Rupert will be up and running this spring in addition to the two round trips weekly that run from September to June.
The peak season schedule will remain the same with five weekly round trips between mid June and September.
Ellen Foster is the co-chair of the North and Central Coast BC Ferries Advisory Committee and says the extra sailing is priceless for residents on Haida Gwaii.
Foster believes both the province and B.C. Ferries won’t see any trouble filling up the sailing, considering last fall’s royal visit could spark an increase in tourism.
Foster adds she looks forward to talking with all of the parties involved to continue improving the ferry connections to Haida Gwaii.
Departure and arrivals times along with how much a trip will cost is expected to be released later on.
