Smithers residents may be able to stop boiling their water sooner than expected.
Except for the airport and the Watson Landing subdivision, residents should continue boiling their water vigorously for at least a minute, let it cool before using and don’t use water right out of the tap for cooking, bathing or general hygiene. But hope is on the horizon as officials say they have not found any more signs of the coliform bacteria
Testing will continue, but it looks like residents could get the green light tonight.
Officials believe that it may have been an isolated sampling test that sparked the advisory, although they need two consecutive tests that say otherwise to rescind the warning.
The Director of Works and Operations Roger Smith says crews are continuing to work on the problem and have been taking samples of the water ever since the boil water went into effect since last Friday.
