Residents in Terrace and Kitimat should brace for hazardous winter weather this weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for inland sections of both the North and Central Coasts.
Forecasters say a powerful storm will approach the coast Saturday night and Sunday with strong outflow winds along the surface and warm moist air at higher elevations.
The weather office expects snow by early Sunday mixed with freezing rain later in the day, and then on to rain late Sunday morning or afternoon as the warm air starts to dominate.
Forecasters say highways, roads, and walkways may become slippery and icy. Officials say travellers may want to postpone plans until the weather improves.
Environment Canada has also issued a wind warning for the Central Coast with gusts of up to 90 km/h over exposed sections of the coast.
Officials say it’s best to avoid wooded areas in case of falling trees or branches and camper should move to sturdy shelters.
