The Heiltsuk Nation dodged a bigger bullet that first thought.
The fuel barge that became separated from its tugboat off the Central Coast Sunday was actually carrying 12.4 million litres of gas and diesel, not 3.5 million litres of diesel and a half million litres of gas as first thought.
Emergency Management BC says the load was thought to be in litres when it was actually in gallons.
The Jake Shearer and its barge remain at anchor in a sheltered area of the Central Coast. Divers patched three cracks on the port side forward of the tug and the repairs are holding.
Transport Canada and U.S. inspectors will next complete their overview of the vessels.
Harley Marine will have to get its tow plan reviewed by Transport Canada before the tug and barge continue on to U.S. waters.
