A Tahltan language teacher is being honoured with the 2018 Provincial Child Care Award of Excellence.
Patricia Louie will receive the award for her extensive work in promoting and spreading the Tahltan language in the community of Iskut.
Louie has worked with the Tahltan Central Government’s Language and Culture program since 2014.
Through her travelling tea and bannock program, Louie visits community members homes to share traditional language and culture.
Louie also works with children as young as 6 months old where she introduces them to their language and culture through 16 hour “language nest” programs.
Patricia was one of 66 nominees for this year’s award.
