During the last city council meeting, an idea was pitched to add a plaque to remember the teachers strike in 1981.
In the spring of 1981 things were heating up in the Terrace local where 19 personnel issues were creating a united local prepared to act in support of satisfactory resolutions.
After considerable discussion and pressure from teachers, Terrace teacher president, Wayne Wyatt led teachers out on a six-day strike on June 12, 1981.
Debra Thame is with the Terrace and District Teachers Union and she says even in small towns major events like this can happen.
Thame says they hope to have the plaque installed on world teachers day which is October 5th, and a location is still to be determined.
