Yesterday was the first day of competition for the North American games and Team BC didn’t waste any time grabbing 2 medals.
Fifteen-year-old Marquesis Haintz claimed the first of many medals for Team BC in the 16 and under 3k division, snagging the silver medal.
Marquesis said she was really shocked at how much attention she got after the silver.
Marquesis says she’s happy about her first medal, but she still understands the competition is very tough
Even though the competition is tough and everyone wants a chance to grab a medal, Marquesis touched on the mutual respect between all athletes.
Following Haintz’s medal, it created some momentum for Hannah McGuckin who won a bronze in the under 19 6k division.
Currently, Saskatchewan leads the medal race bringing in 7 pieces of hardware, while Ontario is in second place with 3 medals and B.C. sits in third.
