Two Vanderhoof men have been fined for running down a coyote and then killing the animal with a machete.
The BC Conservation Officer Service says it was alerted to the killing at Tachik Lake near Vanderhoof in January of 2017.
Witnesses say the pair chased the coyote in a pickup across the frozen lake, injuring it. They then used a machete to kill it.
The Conservation Officer Service says evidence gathered from the truck linked the pair with the incident which led to charges of harassing wildlife with a vehicle and unlawful possession of wildlife.
The driver pleaded guilty in August of last year and was fined $5000 and banned from hunting for three years.
The passenger pleaded guilty last week and was fined $500.
The Conservation Officer Service is thanking the witnesses who came forward with the complaint and encourages others to contact the COS hotline at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277) with violation reports.
