There’s a new app out for whale and cetacean watchers.
The Whale Report app is available for Apple and Android phones.
It allows people to report whale and cetacean sightings with their phones and send the data directly to the B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network.
The network is a conservation program that’s part of the Vancouver Aquarium.
Caitlin Birdsall is with the Vancouver Aquarium, and she says the new app is a valuable tool for citizen scientists to help gather data.
The app itself has many features, and is easy for users to quickly get started.
Birdsall says the app has already doubled the data that the network is receiving.
She also says they hope the app will get more people reporting data from the north coast, where they currently don’t have as much information.
A link to the app can be found at wildwhales.org.
