Officials from the BC Wildfire Service met with the public in Burns Lake yesterday in an attempt to better educate residents.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the situation is dire through much of northern BC, and their hope is to dispel rumours and misinformation, allowing residents to make informed decisions.
Despite fires burning more than a thousand square kilometers in the area, many residents are still defying evacuation orders.
Incident Commander Pete Lang informed residents of the threats ahead, saying that the fires, especially the Verdun and Nadina fires are continuing to grow at a rapid rate and are unlikely to slow.
Residents at the meeting questioned how the fires got to this point, blaming inadequate resource assignment.
