Yukon proposing to make National Aboriginal Day a statutory holiday

The new Yukon Liberal Government has tabled its first piece of legislation.

Community Services Minister John Streicker has tabled Bill 2, the National Aboriginal Day Act, which declares June 21st a statutory holiday.

Premier Sandy Silver says this move is part of leading the way toward reconciliation with First Nations.

Currently, the Northwest Territories is the only jurisdiction in Canada that celebrates National Aboriginal Day as a holiday.
