Residents of the Kitimat area are invited to an event tonight to commemorate the victims and survivors of the Residential School tragedy.
Put on by the organizers of the Every Child Matters Memorial Soccer Tournament, the event will take place at the Kitamaat Village Soccer Field at 7:00.
Orange paint is being provided for attendees to place their handprints on the street next to the field.
Similar events are also planned for next week at River Lodge and Mount Elizabeth High School, though no time or date has been set.
Hosted by the Haisla Braves, the tournament will run between July 1-3, and will feature at least 18 teams from across the northwest.
An opening ceremony will be held, featuring traditional Haisla dancing and speeches by the Residential School Survival Group on the afternoon of July 2nd at the Riverlodge Soccer Field at 3:00.
This tournament would not be possible without sponsors such as the District of Kitimat and Kitamaat Village Council for providing fields for the games, and Save-on Foods for providing refreshments, among others.
