Officials at Moricetown Elementary Secondary School are scrambling to find space for their students after a school-wide flood this week.

The flooding happened Wednesday when a four inch pipe that feeds the sprinkler system burst. Fortunately, cleaning staff were there and could shut down the systems quickly.
The Kyah Wiget Education Society says the priority is to find students a safe space as soon as possible.
The Executive Director of the Witset First Nation has offered use of part of its gym, small feast hall, and upper floor of the band office for temporary classes and storage.
Christine Bruce, Communications Coordinator with the Witset First Nation, says staff met Friday and left feeling positive about taking on temporary space for a couple of weeks while the school gets back online. Bruce says they see it as an adventure, with lots of opportunities for students.
Residents are being asked to keep an eye on the Moricetown News and Events Facebook page for updates about facility availability.
KWES says the Witsuwit’en Child and Family Centre may be open on Monday, January 8. Because daycare
systems are tied to those of MESS, they are awaiting confirmation regarding opening.
The society says ICount and all Adult Education programmes are unaffected and will operate as usual starting Monday, January 8.
