The Terrace fire department held an open house for interested and potential volunteer firefighters last night.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Jephson says the annual event was once again a success.
The Terrace Fire Department is one of the departments throughout the province that acts as a first responder to many different emergency scenes. Jephson put emphasis on utilizing the provincial government’s new program called ” Playbook” a course in which tests the candidate’s competency in Emergency Situations as well as training internally and externally when emergency calls come through.
When asked why the need for more volunteers, Jephson responded with the importance of having as many volunteers on the team due to the possibility of certain circumstances in which trained individuals may not be available on a 24/7 basis.
Volunteering with the department allows for a possible career within fire emergency services. Jephson adds the call out is for men and woman. currently, there are 3 women on the volunteer call list.
Though last nights open house is over, he encourages those interested to still apply. Applications are avaliable on the Terrace Emergency services website or by dropping by the firehall during regular business hours. Below is a link to the website.
