The Ministry of Transportation has issued an avalanche alert for a section of Highway 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert.
Officials say the highway may close within the next 12 hours because of the risk of slides.
The alert area stretches from 13km east of the Port Edward Turnoff to 35km west of Terrace.
The region was hit by a major dump of snow between Monday night and Tuesday.
