With a heavy amount of snow this winter and the temperature starting to climb, the Town of Smithers has issued a public advisory to help residents prepare for spring melt.
The town says now is the time to check sump pumps, carefully clear a channel in any ice dams on the roof to prevent water getting under your singles, and make sure your downspouts are pointed away from your house and toward the street or lane.
Officials say it’s also a good idea for homeowners to keep an eye on their street catch basins and notify the town of any blockages.
