It could be a very tough year for First Nations, fishing charter operators, and commercial salmon fisheries.
Low number projections have the Department of Fisheries and Oceans considering North Coast area closures for both chinook and sockeye this season.
DFO Director of Salmon Management Jennifer Nener says the department is meeting with First Nations and stakeholders about a range of conservation possibilities, including outright closures, which could vary by species and system.
Nener says stakeholder response has brought about concerns across the board over conservation, which is a good thing, but she says people are worried.
DFO says the Integrated Fisheries Management Plan detailing any possible restrictions should be available in June.
