The Stellat’en First Nation and the BC government have moved closer to reconciliation thanks to a new forestry agreement.
The 25 year agreement grants the nation a woodland license to sustainably harvest 32,500 cubic metres of timber for each of the first five years, and at mid-forecasting levels for the remainder.
The license covers over 10 thousand hectares of land near Fraser Lake.
The agreement will provide an enhanced economic opportunity for the Nation, aligning with the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
