A group of more than 300 educators in BC gathered yesterday for a two day mental health conference.
The Community Mental Health Conference, which hopes to become annual, pulled together members of the public, independant, and First Nations school systems in the province to discuss improvements to student mental health care.
The goal is to remove the gap in student success for those struggling with mental health issues.
Minister of Education Rob Flemming plans to do this by offering more support and providing intervention strategies.
Flemming also used the opportunity to announce his new ERASE annonymous safety reporting tool which will provide stronger information sharing with law enforcement and support teams.
The Conference continues in to today with workshops, panel discussions, and presentations with a focus on early intervention among young students suffering from mental illness.
