The Tahltan Nation is expected to get about $7 million dollars a year from a mine located in its territory.
The Province of BC and the Tahltan Central Government have signed a revenue sharing agreement that will deliver a portion of provincial mineral tax revenues from the Brucejack gold mine.
The underground mine, owned by Pretium Resources, was commissioned in April of last year and is expected to create more than 300 jobs during its 22 year lifespan.
The Tahltan Central Government and Pretium also inked a cooperation and benefits agreement last year which commits the company to provide education and training for Tahltan citizens, employment targets and a commitment that Tahltan businesses will have access to contracting opportunities.
Chief Rick Mclean of the Tahltan Band Council calls the agreement another step forward in the their relationship with the Province.
